I survived the snow and freezing temps!

Well... I survived the snow and freezing temps in both Florida and Georgia, but it was not a great introduction to vanlife! Honestly, it wasn't so much the cold - although it was CRAZY cold! But more, how silly I felt sleeping in a self-converted mini van with no heat. Ironically, I'd told myself this lifestyle would be good for my mental health: Trust me, at 3AM and 28 degrees, that story became harder and harder to believe. In the morning, I called a friend and spend the next few days thinking "Why am I here?" "What's wrong with me?""Why can't I just live in a house like a normal human being?" But alas.... I am not normal. So I soldiered on.

By the second night I'd overcome my fear of the Mr. Buddy heater, but quickly proceeded to melt the ceiling of my van. (Pro Tip: Do NOT put the heater on top of the cooler - even if you think it will be safer, up off the floor it is not!). I did some hiking, toured St. Augustine, FL and returned home at the end of the week, feeling somewhat victorious.

About Me:

Best me and Lukasz 4.5 months.jpeg

With the people I love scattered about,  I found myself retired, bored, and sitting alone in Williamsburg, VA.  So I bought a van (or two... or three... ), packed up my bike and set off to be with them.  I am an author  (8 books and counting), freelance writer and rails to trails cyclist, trying to figure out how to be Gigi - a 21st Century grandma.
