So exactly one year from the exact date I attempted to jump into van life in 2020, I am ironically setting out again! Apparently sitting in sticks and brick in January continues to prove too much for me! This time, I'm heading to Georgia, then on to Florida. Hopefully to store up enough inner warmth to make it to New Hampshire in late Feb. (My daughter's having a baby - Yay!!).
Meanwhile, I'm currently sitting in snow. In fact, it seems my first week of van life will include multiple 25-30 degree nights, yes even in GA and FL! So... my plan - you ready for this? okay - but don't laugh... I'm hoping to book an RV site at a campground. Then hoping (and praying) that the electric service will include a 110 v outlet option. (I know, right? but finger's crossed!) From there - you guessed it. I'm bring an outdoor extension cord and space heater - which of course, I'll plug in and feed thru the cracked driver's side window. If it works, of course, I'll consider myself brilliant! But let's just say, I'm also not holding my breath.
I do have a Mr. Buddy heater with me, but for the life of me, I can't imagine using it. I know everyone does. I know it says "Indoor Safe" in huge black letters on the box. I also know it has an internal 02 sensor and an auto shut off. But years of social conditioning continue to spew anxiety in my path. At best, I'd have to crack a window... which in Vandora, means starting the van... at which point, it seems silly not to just use the van's heater. Though I must admit, I'm currently sitting in a well-heated townhouse. Twenty-five degrees in a van, and there's a good chance my previous social conditioning will vanish. So yeah, long story short - I'm hoping there's a 110v outlet nearby!
Vandora's current set up. Still a no-build build, but honestly, I think she's got everything I need. Guess I'll find out soon enough! Here's hoping my adventures in 2021 are far more exciting than those of 2020!
