Vandora Tribus is actually my third attempt at a van build. In fact, the Tribus in her name means three (or third) in Latin. Vandora is in reference to Pandora's Box. Selling everything you own, grabbing the cat, and taking off in a van, is definitely a legendary leap of faith. And much like Pandora, I suspect there's trouble ahead.
According to Greek mythology, after opening the forbidden box, Pandora sat crying over the darkness she'd unleashed. When suddenly, from the depth of the infamous box rose hope. It is that hope I'm seeking. And that hope, which lead me to Vandora's name.
Third times a charm! (I hope!)
This is Vandora, the day I brought her home. She's a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica van. I haven't done anything with her yet - it's just too cold to be outside. I also have absolutely no mechanical skill, no tools, and zero building experience. Most likely, I'll end up using a REI cot, some Rubbermaid storage containers, a Yetti cooler, camp stove, jet boil and a Luggable Loo. The rest may come with time, but at this point, I feel like time is of the essence.
Though there is nothing concrete driving my schedule, I am eager to stop pretending everything is fine and make my escape. Of course, I won't look pretty on Instagram, but at the ripe old age of 56, I can honestly say, I'm okay with that!
"You're never going to be 100% ready and it's never going to be just the right time, but that's the point. It means that every moment is the right moment.
